CNR Culture Day 2016
During the 2016 Nurses Week Celebration on Wednesday, May 11th , CNR staff and residents celebrated its annual Culture Day. The event offers CNR, staff, family, friends and the larger community the opportunity to come together to plan, participate in and enjoy this event which celebrates the cultural diversity of the facility.
Various tents representing different cultures were put up outside the facility, and included paintings, sculptures and stories, as well as cuisines that symbolized the respective nations including, Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago, the Dominican Republic, Ukraine, Israel, Russia, Sweden, Scotland, Italy, Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Barbados, Jamaica, Philippines, St Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Dominica, St. Kitts, Grenada, Carricou, Petit Martinique, Haiti, Panama, Honduras and The United States.
While some staff members dressed in traditional costumes representing their countries of origin, others decorated their uniforms with costume elements or national colors.
The day opened with an interfaith prayer led by Reverend Narcisse Phillips. Elisa Helligar, community liaison from Senator Jesse Hamilton’s office, greeted residents and staff alike, and wished a Happy Nurses week to all on behalf of the Senator. The day was filled with laughter, diverse music and high spirits and culminated with a cultural “parade of nations.”
